Tripoli Earth (Diatomite) is a naturally occurring, light-colored, soft sedimentary rock formed mainly of the fossilized siliceous shells of diatoms and used in a finely pulverized a state as an abrasive, absorbent and filter. It is also known as Diatomaceous Earth, DE, Kieselguhr.
Tripoli Earth is used for polishing of varnishes and lacquers and as a filler for abrasive paints. It can also be used to create antiqued effects.
